Cullen's plans for a helipad at home are grounded

AUTHOR and Renault boss Bill Cullen (right) has decided to ground plans for a helipad at his Co Kerry holiday home.

Glencullen Properties Ltd, which is owned by Mr Cullen, had lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanala after Kerry County Council refused permission for helicopters to land in the prime amenity area.

The appeal was withdrawn yesterday.

The council had argued the site would adversely affect the natural environment between Mangerton and Torc Mountains and interfere with the character of the area.

In its appeal, Glencullen Properties Ltd stated that helicopters had landed at the site for years. The helipad was "for domestic use" and did not impact on adjoining properties or on protected views.

Earlier this week, Mr Cullen lost the franchise for Renault cars in Ireland.
