THE former residence of Catholic Bishop of Limerick Dr Donal Murray (right) has been put on the market - with a price tag of €20m.
The magnificent Georgian house on a 6.4-acre site went on sale yesterday. Tenders are to begin early next month.
Located on the North Circular Road, one of Limerick‘s most sought-after addresses, Kylemore is for sale in three possible lots.
The house on one acre has a guide price of €5m plus; the land at over five acres has a guide price of €15m, and the house and land together are marked at over €20m.
Some property experts estimate the property will sell for more than €20m.
Others are more cautious, given the recent downturn in property prices.
Speaking to yesterday‘s 'Limerick Leader' newspaper John de Courcey of De Courcey auctioneers, who are handling the sale, said: "What we are telling potential clients is that the guide price is €20m plus."
A spokesman for Limerick Diocesan Office said yesterday the proceeds of the sale would be used to provide a capital injection to the fund which provides for the needs of sick and retired priests.
It is understood that some of the money will be used to clear the church‘s €2.4m debt for the refurbishment of St John‘s Cathedral.
One of the obvious favourites to buy Kylemore, according to local speculation, is millionaire property developer Aidan Brookes whose family home adjoins the house. The bishop moved 18 months ago.
