UCD plans large student centre

UCD HAS applied for planning permission for an 11,100sq m (119,479sq ft) student learning, leisure and sports complex on a 4.67-acre site currently used as a games pitch and landscaped space near the National Hockey Stadium and Sports Centre building at its Belfield campus in Dublin 4.

The proposal is for a two-storey and three-storey building with an atrium that incorporates a 50-metre swimming pool and a wellness centre, fitness centre with aerobics and dance studios, a debating chamber, drama theatre, multimedia and seminar rooms, a student media centre, health facilities and shops and a space for a café.

A parking area - with enough space to accommodate 140 cars - is also included in the plans.
