PROPOSALS for a major residential, retail and office development including almost 800 new homes on Dublin's South Circular Road have been given the go-ahead by the planning board.
The mixed use scheme at the former John Player factory and the Bailey Gibson industrial premises will comprise 16 buildings ranging from two to 12 storeys in height and will include 754 residential units, a 16-class school, two creches, two community centres, a medical centre, a supermarket, a home textile store, offices, restaurants and cafes.
Players Square, a joint venture between Bee Bee Developments Ireland Ltd and the Walls Group, will be constructed on a 4.32-hectares site and will have a total floor area of almost one million square feet.
The planned office accommodation will comprise own door properties with a total floor area of almost 30,000sq ft. A swimming pool and a leisure centre are also planned as part of the development.
Dublin City Council last year granted planning permission for the development which was subsequently appealed to An Bord Pleanala.
The developers say they are examining conditions attached to the planning permission and that proposed changes will be implemented.
