IFA remind farmers of Farm Waste Management deadline

IFA Deputy President, Derek Deane has reminded farmers who have applied for the Farm Waste Management scheme, that the deadline for submission of drawings and planning permission, if required, is June 29th next.

Mr Deane said that, farmers who had applied under the fast-tracking at the end of 2006, might not have submitted the required drawings to the Department of Agriculture or for Local Authority planning permission. An extension was given up to the end of June, due to the huge backlog that had developed.

The IFA Deputy President said that already 21,000 farmers have been approved to proceed with grant aid, while a further 25,000 farmers have applied, but have yet to be approved for grant aid. Many of these farmers may not yet have submitted the necessary drawings. They now have until the end of June to do this.

Meanwhile, Mr Deane has welcomed the commitment by the Department of Agriculture to examine standard costings in light of significant cost increases of steel and concrete since the start of the year.

At a recent Charter of Rights meeting, the Department of Agriculture told IFA that an analysis would be undertaken over the next 2 months to determine whether a twice-yearly review of costings takes place.

IFA believe that a mid-year review of costings is inevitable following recent CSO data on building material cost increases.
