Council says yes to apartments and parking at Foxrock site

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has planning permission to redevelop Clonbur, a property at the junction of Torquay Road and Westminster Road in Foxrock, Dublin 18 into an apartment complex.

The owner Michael McNamara plans to knock the house to make way for 11 apartments, an office, shop and 33 car-parking spaces. The proposal attracted considerable local opposition from residents of the leafy suburb.

The local authority granted planning permission despite objections from seven parties, including Foxrock Area Development Ltd (FADL) who said the scheme would put extra pressure on the already inadequate road infrastructure in Foxrock village and any development of this important site should be addressed within the context of a village improvement plan, being prepared by the council. FADL also said the development of Clonbur and Gortanore, another site on Brighton Road where developer David Arnold is planning 37 apartments, are of fundamental importance to the proper planning and sustainable development of the village.
